 The ABC understands how the expense of airfare can be a financial burden to our families when traveling to the expert exstrophy centers. The ABC is proud to announce our "Wings of Hope" program.
We are able to get free or reduced rate airfare for our families who are burdened by today's cost of airfare (please note that the ticket holder may be liable for airport fees and taxes). The ABC is able to provide this assistance by various contacts with airlines, through their donated air miles programs.
- Major Exstrophy Centers must not be obtainable in your home area.
- Medical travel must not be covered by the family's insurance.
- Airlines give priorities to families with financial hardships.
- Free/Reduced tickets are availalbe for patient and parents only. Tickets for other family member must be purchased.
- Request will be made on a case-by-case basis.
- Wings of Hope does not apply to families traveling to the following hospitals as these hospitals have their own free travel program:
- St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
- Shriners Hospitals
- Star Ship Children's Hospital- Auckland, New Zealand
- Various airlines may reject applications if specific guidelines are not met or if they do not have enough funds.
- As a benefit of ABC membership, the ABC will forward and coordinate the proper documents directly with the airline on your behalf. If you are a non-member or need to renew your membership and would like to join us please contact us.
- Certain geographical areas airfare must be purchased to a connecting point.
- A medical statement must be obtained from doctor providing treatment and/or local doctor. (Depends on the airline).
- Airlines need four weeks notice prior to travel date. International applicants will need to give more advanced notice. Life threatening situations can be done on shorter notice.
